about

I set out one day to write something that Johnny Cash might have written, and the core of the song just kind of wrote itself. A couple of additional lines were added before the recording sessions and it was finished. Added some 12-string acoustic on this song for a bit of extra colour.

lyrics

2. The Road I’ve Known (Dave Sills) © 2019

There's a road that I've known, that I've gone down too many times
And it's the road that I've known that I'm goin' down

Oh the road that I've known, it ain’t got no painted lines
But it's the road that I've known that I'm goin' down

Never gonna say that I'm never gonna fall again
I could throw it all away and I'd never ever get it back again
Gotta find a way, gonna get away, gotta get home...

Yeah the road that I've known, a gravel run through the dark pines
And it's the road that I've known that I'm goin' down

There's a road that I've known, that I've gone down too many times
But it's the road that I've known that I'm goin' down
